Who is Cenk Yuksel

Cenk Yüksel (K.O.A.) is a multidisciplinary artist who brings together his identities as a musician, countertenor, composer, songwriter, painter, author, academic, and educator within a single creative journey. His artistic perspective goes beyond specialization in one field; it is rooted in a holistic form of expression in which voice, body, painting, writing, academia, and human experience continuously inform and enrich one another.

One of the most significant milestones in his artistic journey was his admission to the Opera Department of the Istanbul University State Conservatory, where he auditioned as a countertenor. By becoming the first artist in Turkey to be admitted for formal academic training in this field with a countertenor identity, he took a pioneering step not only in his own career, but also in terms of the visibility of this vocal type within Turkey’s academic music environment.

His countertenor identity gradually became one of his most distinctive artistic characteristics. With his extraordinary vocal capacity, stage experience, and approach to music, he began to reach wider audiences. His appearance on Akademi Türkiye introduced his voice to an even broader public, and in the following years he took part in numerous musical and stage projects both in Turkey and abroad. His professional career also brought him together with some of Turkey’s most prominent artists, including Tarkan.

For Cenk Yüksel, however, music has never been limited to interpretation alone. He chose to build his own musical world. He wrote the lyrics and music for the songs on his albums himself, shaping his work around his own artistic language rather than reproducing someone else’s aesthetic vision. Over time, his songs developed a loyal and deeply connected audience while also receiving broad appreciation from listeners across Turkey.

Art, in his life, was never confined to a single discipline. Music began to intersect with theatre, movement, dance, performance, and the body. This wide-ranging stage experience later became one of the foundations of his work on breath, voice, movement, and the relationship people build with themselves.

Cenk Yüksel’s artistic identity also evolved alongside his academic career. He worked as an academic at Yeditepe University for five years, where he shared his experience across a wide spectrum of subjects, from performing arts and voice use to breathing, diction, stress and anger management, personal development, and communication.

A major turning point in the international dimension of his academic journey came through a Creative Industries-focused event held in Turkey, involving institutions such as UNESCO, the British Council, the University of Reading, and the British Kazakh University. Following his participation as a speaker at the panel, an important academic opportunity emerged.

Cenk Yüksel received an offer of doctoral funding from the University of Reading, and following the evaluation of his research proposal, he was admitted as a doctoral researcher with a 100% merit-based scholarship. This marked a significant moment in which his long-standing interdisciplinary approach to art, education, performance, communication, and human experience gained recognition within an international academic context.

Breath, Voice, Movement and Sacred Transformation

Cenk Yüksel’s many years of work on breath, voice, body, movement, awareness, and the individual’s relationship with the self eventually came together in his book, “Breath, Voice, Movement and Sacred Transformation.”

Shortly after its publication, the book entered bestseller lists and moved from its first to its third edition within a short period of time. Yet its impact extended far beyond sales figures. The strong response from readers, the growing interest in the trainings developed around the book, and the increasing demand for individual sessions transformed the idea of “Sacred Transformation” into something far greater than a literary work alone.

In Cenk Yüksel’s trainings, breath, voice, and movement are not treated merely as technical practices. They become tools through which individuals can hear themselves again, reconnect with their bodies, and develop a deeper relationship with their inner world. Participants’ accounts of personal transformation and the increasing demand for one-to-one work have helped this approach reach an ever-growing community.

From Art to Social Impact: Sesim Resim

One of the central ideas in Cenk Yüksel’s artistic philosophy is the social responsibility of the artist. For him, art is not only a space for self-expression; it can also become a powerful social instrument for giving space to unheard voices and making the unseen visible.

One of the clearest examples of this approach is “Sesim Resim,” an exhibition concept of which Cenk Yüksel is both the creator and project owner, as well as the painter behind the works.

Organized in support of TEGV and the Mor Salkım Women’s Solidarity Association, the project quickly moved beyond the framework of a conventional exhibition and developed into a widely recognized social responsibility movement in Turkey.

One of the project’s most distinctive features was the participation of some of Turkey’s best-known artists and public figures, who gave their voices to the artworks. In this way, the audience was presented not simply with paintings, but with an interdisciplinary experience in which image, voice, story, and human experience came together.

The exhibitions travelled to numerous cities across Turkey, meeting new audiences and new stories in each location. Over time, the project became one of the most important works through which Cenk Yüksel came to be recognized not only as a musician or painter, but also as a creator capable of bringing different artistic disciplines together around social impact.

At the heart of this approach lies a simple but powerful question:

“Whose voice is not being heard?”

What began in Cenk Yüksel’s artistic journey as the discovery of his own voice gradually evolved into a desire to make the voices of others heard. Music made the invisible audible; painting made the unspeakable visible; writing preserved experience; academia asked questions; and education created a space through which all of this knowledge and experience could be shared with others.

From Cenk Yüksel to K.O.A.

Over time, these different fields of creation gave rise to another name around Cenk Yüksel: K.O.A.

It was not a title he deliberately invented for himself. Rather, over the years, friends, artists, academics, followers, and listeners who witnessed the extraordinary range of his work—from music to painting, theatre to writing, performance to academia, education to social responsibility—began repeating a similar phrase:

“You truly are the king of art.”

That expression gradually became “King of the Art,” and from there, three letters emerged:
K.O.A.

Yet the “King” in K.O.A. does not represent a throne, superiority, or authority over others in the conventional sense.

On the contrary, within Cenk Yüksel’s artistic philosophy, this idea of “kingdom” represents the courage to take full responsibility for one’s own creative universe.

Because true kingship is not about ruling others. It is about fully owning one’s potential.

It means refusing to imprison oneself within a single definition such as “singer,” “painter,” “writer,” “academic,” or “educator,” and instead allowing the many creative languages within a person to exist freely.

Sometimes singing.

Sometimes becoming silent and painting.

Sometimes writing.

Sometimes teaching.

Sometimes researching.

And sometimes stepping away from one’s own story to make room for the story of someone whose voice has not yet been heard.

For this reason, K.O.A. became less a title given to Cenk Yüksel and more the collective name of the many artistic identities that had developed throughout his life.

For him, King of the Art does not mean being “the king above art.” It means refusing to be confined to a single room within the house of art.

Cenk Yüksel the musician, Cenk Yüksel the painter, Cenk Yüksel the writer, Cenk Yüksel the academic, Cenk Yüksel the educator, and Cenk Yüksel the artist who listens to human stories gradually came together under one name:

K.O.A.

And perhaps the most accurate symbol for this name is not a crown, but wholeness.

Because in Cenk Yüksel’s art, the kingdom is not found on a throne.

It is found in a note.
In a breath.
In a line.
In a book, in a student’s eyes, in a human story, and in the space opened for someone whose voice has not yet been heard.

That is why K.O.A. is not a claim of superiority.

It is a philosophy of art and a way of life.

It’s hard to be a woman in Turkey… It’s important for women to be self-reliant and strong… This project aims to inspire women to remain strong in the face of challenges. The stories of women supported by the Mor Salkım Women’s Solidarity Association are narrated by well-known figures, and each story is illustrated by artist and academic Cenk Yüksel. The paintings are on display at the Mustafa Kemal Cultural Center/Contemporary Art Center, and visitors can scan the QR codes beneath the paintings with their phones to listen to the stories narrated by these well-known figures. The proceeds from every painting sold are donated to the Mor Salkım Women’s Solidarity Association to support the empowerment of even more women.

The Mor Salkım Women’s Solidarity Association has been active since 2012, guided by its principles of gender equality, volunteerism, solidarity, and the fight against discrimination. It continues its work to promote gender equality, women’s empowerment, women’s rights, and to have a positive impact on society. Since its founding, the association has touched the lives of thousands of women through the many projects it has carried out, offering them hope and making a difference in their lives.

Breath • Sound • Movement & Sacred Transformation

The gateway to inner transformation is not outside of us — it lies within.

Breath • Sound • Movement & Sacred Transformation is a holistic transformational approach developed by Cenk Yüksel, bringing together conscious breath, the vibrational power of the human voice, and embodied movement within a unified experience.

The foundations of this approach are presented in Cenk Yüksel’s book, “Breath, Sound, Movement & Sacred Transformation,” and are brought from theory into lived experience through trainings and experiential programs.

The purpose is not simply to relax or feel better for a short period of time.

The purpose is to create a space where individuals can reconnect with their body, breath, voice, and inner being.

Three Foundations: Breath • Sound • Movement

Reading begins the process of understanding. Experience brings knowledge into the body.

BREATH — The Gateway Within

Breath is the most fundamental rhythm that accompanies us throughout our lives.

And yet, although we are constantly breathing, we are often unaware of our breath.

Through conscious breathing practices, attention begins to shift from the external world toward the body, allowing us to experience the present moment more deeply and become aware of our own inner rhythm.

Within this work, breath is approached not only as a physiological process, but as a gateway to awareness and inner exploration.

SOUND — The Vibration of the Body

The human voice is far more than a tool for communication.

Sound is also breath transformed into vibration within the body.

Rooted in Cenk Yüksel’s international stage experience and his identity as a countertenor, this approach takes sound beyond something that is merely heard and transforms it into something participants discover and experience within their own bodies.

Through tone, resonance, vibration, and vocal practices, participants explore not only how to produce their voice, but also how to feel it within the body and allow it to become freer and more authentic.

The purpose here is not to sing beautifully.

The purpose is to encounter your own unique vibration.

MOVEMENT — Embodying Transformation

The body can sometimes express far more than words ever could.

For this reason, movement forms the third foundation of the work.

Free and conscious movement practices create space for the experiences opened through breath and sound to find expression within the body. They support deeper body awareness and allow participants to explore self-expression through movement.

Movement here is not a performance.

Nor is it choreography.

It is the body remembering its own language.

Sacred Transformation

Breath, sound, and movement are not practiced as three separate techniques.

When brought together, they become interconnected elements of a single transformational journey:

Breath opens.
Sound vibrates.
Movement embodies.
Awareness integrates.

Within Cenk Yüksel’s methodology, this holistic process is called Sacred Transformation.

Here, the word “sacred” does not necessarily refer to any particular religion or belief system. Rather, it represents the deep and personal connection a person establishes with their own being, body, life energy, and inner essence.

Altered States of Consciousness & the DMT Approach

One of the important areas explored within this work is the potential for deepened or altered states of consciousness through the combination of breath, sound, rhythm, and movement.

No external psychoactive substances are used within the program.

Within the terminology of this methodology, the concept of “DMT activation” is used to describe powerful inner experiences that may emerge through the combination of intensive breathwork, vocal resonance, vibration, movement, and focused awareness.

How these experiences are felt, perceived, and interpreted may differ from one participant to another.

The intention of the work is not to impose or promise a particular experience, but to create a safe, awareness-based space in which individuals can explore their own body, voice, and consciousness.

From Book to Training, From Knowledge to Experience

“Breath, Sound, Movement & Sacred Transformation” presents the philosophy and foundational principles behind this approach.

The training transforms the world described in the book into lived experience.

Reading begins the process of understanding.

Experience brings that knowledge into the body.

For this reason, the training is not designed simply as a system in which participants observe Cenk Yüksel’s practices.

Instead, it is a participant-centered transformational process in which individuals gradually discover their own breath, their own voice, their own movement, and their own awareness.

Who Is This Work For?

This journey is open to those who wish to establish a deeper connection with themselves; artists and creators seeking to explore their creative potential; professionals, leaders, and entrepreneurs who feel disconnected from their bodies or inner center within the intensity of modern life; and anyone who feels ready to take their personal transformation journey to a deeper level.

No previous experience in voice work, breathwork, meditation, or movement is required.

Because the starting point of this approach is not a technique.

It is the human being.

Cenk Yüksel

Cenk Yüksel is a countertenor artist, vocal virtuoso, educator, and the author of “Breath, Sound, Movement & Sacred Transformation.”

Drawing upon years of vocal and stage experience, he has developed his own holistic methodology by bringing together voice, breath, movement, body awareness, and consciousness practices.

Within this approach, Cenk Yüksel’s role is not to “give” transformation to the participant.

His role is to create the space in which each individual can discover the breath, voice, movement, awareness, and capacity for transformation that already exist within them.

Transformation does not come from outside.

It begins in your breath.
It vibrates through your voice.
It moves through your body.
And as you experience it, you transform.
